Who We Are, What We Do

Memorial Restorations, based in Ontario, Canada, has a 25-year tradition of excellence in monument repair and restoration.

We have restored some of Ontario’s most historically significant monuments and tens of thousands of gravestones in hundreds of public and privately owned cemeteries.

With a deep understanding of each stone and monument’s historical significance and personal value, we use time-honored, expert craftsmanship coupled with environmentally conscious cleaning and preservation methods.

Foundation of the Company

I am the child of two Dutch immigrants who fled the Netherlands after the end of World War 2. I was raised in a traditional Dutch household, and it was drilled into my head that Canada is the best country in the world and we are lucky to be citizens of this country. Now older and wiser, I truly appreciate and understand my father’s passion for hard work and Canada’s opportunities.

My wife and I were blessed to raise our two sons, Ethan and Adin, with the same values. Fresh out of school, Ethan felt the call to become a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, and after five years of service, he chose to join the business in 2022. Adin works with us from time to time, and I enjoy working with both of my sons in the field. I hope to pass along all I have learned and remain hopeful the business will become a second-generation Canadian-owned and operated business.

Historical Conservation

Most older cemeteries contain countless upright grave markers in various states of disrepair and deterioration. Each of these stones is unique, so we assess them individually to determine the best course of action. Then, following the principles outlined in Ontario’s guide to gravestone conservation, “Landscapes of Memories”, we use biodegradable products and precise techniques to ensure the longevity of each repair without causing further or future harm to the monument.
